לפי RCG מים עם מלח לא פורקות את הסוללות והן נשארות מסוכנות! (ציטוטים בהמשך הפוסט)

הדרך הנכונה לפרוק סוללות המיועדות להשלכה:
  1. חיבור נגד של 100 אום 5 וואט למשך יום או יומיים, או
  2. חיבור לבקר (ESC) למשך מסםר ימים, או
  3. חיבור לנורה של מכונית ולהשאיר מחוברת לעוד שעה אחרי שהנורה מפסיקה לפעול
אחרי הפריקה ע"י אחת השיטות הנ"ל, יש לבדוק שהמתח בכל תא הוא פחות מ-3V (או 9V בכל התאים במקרה של סוללת 3 תאים).
עכשיו יש לחתוך את החוטים אחד אחד (עדיף באורכים שונים שלא יקצרו) ולבודד אותם.
לשים בשקית ולזרוק.

סוללות ליפו יכולות להתפוצץ גם בחשיפה לחום גבוה. כאשר הולכים להטיס, חום כזה יכול להיווצר ברכב בטמפרטורות של ארצינו הקטנטונת. הייתי מציע לאחסן את הסוללות כאשר הולכים להטיס בשקית ליפו מבודדת ואולי אפילו בצידנית מבודדת חום. קראתי ב-RCG על מקרה של התלקחות באוטו.

I keep posting this over and over - salt water baths are not a safe way to discharge lipos.

I know this from first hand testing on more than one occation with more than one pack.

The pack may read zero volts after a day or two in the salt water - BUT that is because the aluminum tabs have been erroded away (electrolysis - not the hair removal kind) and you no longer have a continous circuit.

The packs may very well still contain large amounts of energy and still be very dangerous.

Use a light bulb or some other method to discharge packs prior to disposal.

Here is a picture of cells from two different packs I disassembled after they had been sitting in salt water for over 3 WEEKS.

Note that none of the + tabs on any of the cells are still there. Every single one of the aluminum + tabs were completely gone when I took the packs apart.

Ignore the condition of the center cell. I melted it with a blow torch after punching holes in it to see what would happen. Lots of sparking but no flames.

However - if you look closely at the two outer cells you can see discoloration on the cases. That is where the cells got hot when I punchured them. Very hot. This was after 3 weeks in salt water bath - they still had enough energy in it to melt the lipo covering when I punched holes in it with a nail. Lots of sparking too. When I put them back in the salt water they bubbled like crazy - partly from the heat and partly from the electrical action. I am talking rappidly boiling water with steam. They still had a ton of energy in them.

Salt water baths do not work to discharge lipos.
